26 November 2005 - San Carlos, Arizona Quail Hunt
Arizona Grand Slam - Gambles, Mearns & Scaled Quail Today (sorry...not many pictures...I forgot my camera) I went out hunting with Rod, a new friend that bought a pup from Pistols litter earlier this year. Rod and Buck and Pistol, Ice, Slick and I headed out to try to get an Arizona Grand Slam (Mearns, Gambles and Scaled Quail all in one day) as Rod had only hunted Gambles Quail up to this point since living in Arizona. We headed for Mearns country first and were able (after a lot of walking and half the day spent) to get into 2 coveys of Mearns Quail. We each shot 2 males and I got 1 female thanks to a great find by Ice (who turned on the retrieving again today). From there we headed to a new location to see if we could get into some Gambles. To our luck we jumped a covey after walking for only a few minutes and each got one bird. After chasing them for a bit we moved on to Scaled Quail and were able to jump one small covey. All the birds flew off in Rods direction but one and I missed, Rod got one completing his AZ Grand Slam. After that we headed home.
