Arizona Quail Hunter dot com is a log of hunting trips I've made throughout the years including hunts in Arizona & Idaho

Arizona Quail Hunting Log October 2002 - February 2003

We did a lot of hunting in the 2002-2003 season as well but again not a lot of pictures were taken. Below are some pictures from our tip to Idaho. We stayed at Eric's Grandparents and they were a blast! They had a covey of at least 100 Mountain Quail that would come into their back yard and roost in their trees every day.

Pheasant Hunting - Idaho - November 2002

We did a few Pheasant hunts that were really fun. Most of the areas where you hunt Pheasant that aren't on some one else's property are places where the Game and Fish release pen raised birds. The Pheasant hunting was always exciting. When they took off at your feet they did so with such energy and noise it set you back for a second before you shot. Or at least that's how I explained all the birds I missed.

In this picture Cursor was either pointing, had just pointed or was about to point a Pheasant. It was hiding out on the bank of a little water way and Preston shot at it. I don't really remember if he hit it or not but I know we spent some time looking for it on the other side of the bank.

California Quail - Idaho - November 2002

One afternoon we decided to take a trip close to the house and see if we could find any birds. We were told we could find quail in some mountain area's and where we stopped we sure did. We got into a huge covey in some thing brush and chased them down the mountain. It was a steep draw just off the highway and just like Gambles Quail they were a fun challenge to hunt.

Chukar - Idaho - November 2002

We spent some time hunting Chukar on the Idaho/Oregon border and it was a blast. I had one bird shot over a point from Pilot and he made a perfect retrieve. Unfortunately, like most of the trip, Pilot was more interested in busting birds the pointing them and although he found quite a few they were usually out of shooting range. The hillside behind me doesn't look very steep, but it was. Chukar hunting is always steep. Here are some more pictures from our Chukar hunt.

Pilot - Chukar Country - Idaho - November 2002

On this day when we were on our way home there was an accident on the dirt road we were on that was really bad. A truck had somehow rolled quite a bit and a helicopter flew in to take out a passenger.

Hungarian Partridge (Huns) Country - Idaho - November 2002

We spent a few days hunting Huns and they were probably one of the if not the favorite bird to hunt. One thing to love about these Huns was when they would take off they stayed together in a group as they flew away. Then you just had to go in the general direction they went and you'd hit pretty much the entire covey again.
