Arizona Quail Hunting Log January 2004- February 2004 Before selling Rocco I had a few really good hunts with her and Pistol in January and February of 2004. Here are some pictures I took on a hunt in Fountain Hills, Arizona. Lewis a friend of mine told me of a place right behind his new house that had a lot of quail so we spent a few weekends hunting around his place and had a great time. There was a tone of jumping cactus so the dogs always came home with a mouth full but it was still fun. One time Pistol got lost and my efforts to call her in were not working...so I went out looking for her. I found her about a quarter mile from where the truck was covered in cactus and unable to move. It's these types of experiences though that make for a better hunting dog. She doesn't mess around with cactus anymore and I rarely have to pull any out of her anymore.
Pistol Pointing Gambles Quail - Fountain Hills Arizona - January 2004 By this time in her first season of hunting Pistol had started to turn it on. She pointed the runningest covey of Gambles I'd seen in a long time. And maybe that was because of the cover I could really see them. But the ran and ran and ran and each time I'd try to get to them they just ran farther. Pistol pointed about 4 times and I got off a few long shots but in the end didn't hit a thing.
Rocco Pointing Gambles Quail Covey - Fountain Hills Arizona - January 2004 Wish the bush wasn't in the way. Rocco looked good on this covey and they weren't runners so I took a picture and then went in after them. They were on the down slop of the hill we were on and I think they may not have known we were there. When I jumped them they took off all over the mountain and we chased them around for quite awhile. Rocco did me proud. Then I sold her!
